Job Summary:

The Office of Medical Education is searching for an Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education (CME) with a start date of approximately February 1, 2024. This 0.4 FTE position serves in conjunction with other Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC) Assistant/Associate Deans and affiliated teaching hospital partners to develop an advanced approach to CME across the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CUSOM) and the health systems in Colorado.  The position reports directly to the School of Medicine’s Senior Associate Dean of Education. The Associate Dean’s duties and responsibilities include CME business strategy, ACCME Accreditation, community relations/engagement, and faculty, student, and staff support.

The Associate Dean of Continuing Medical Education (CME) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CUSOM) Education plays a crucial role in overseeing and facilitating the ongoing education and professional development of medical professionals. The nature of work for this position involves a variety of responsibilities across academic, administrative, and strategic areas.

With a bold vision for the future, this role presents a unique opportunity for an experienced CME leader to partner with the CUSOM executive leadership and affiliated teaching hospital partners to enhance physicians’ knowledge, competence, performance, and patient outcomes through continuing medical education activities, which are linked to practice and focused on health care equity gaps across CUSOM and the health systems in Colorado.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the academic liaison with the faculty of the departments of the School of Medicine and affiliate teaching hospitals.
  • Provide education and training on CME accreditation and the associated processes to the faculty of department of the School of Medicine and affiliate teaching hospitals.
  • Maintain contacts with education programs of medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Interact with the School of Medicine Alumni/ae Office and address CME needs during their annual meetings.
  • Organize and chair the CME Advisory Committee, involving course directors and other relevant parties.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Dean of the School of Medicine to integrate CME activities with other education, patient care, research, and community service activities.
  • Develop interpersonal relationships with individuals, foundations, professional societies, and other regional stakeholders who are interested in CME.
  • Assist with educational programs for CME Program Directors and Coordinators.
  • Collaborate with the OME Assistant Dean of Finance & Administration to create training and onboarding materials for the CME Program Manager.
  • Work with the Senior Associate Dean of Education and the Assistant Dean of Finance and Administration to develop a strategic business model for CME, ensuring financial sustainability.

Work Location:

  Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule with limited days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

  • M.D. or D.O. Degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and education and medical licensure in the State of Colorado.

  • M.D. or D.O. Degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and education and medical licensure in the State of Colorado.

Professor:

  • M.D. or D.O. Degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and education and medical licensure in the State of Colorado.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of experience in a continuing medical education role(s) such as a course director or faculty member.
  • Experience with oversight of continuing medical education-based programs at institutional levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining collaborative relationships with Program Directors, other CME leaders, and CME Office Personnel, as well as with those with clinical and academic leadership responsibilities across the academic medical center. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of relevant national ACCME accreditation standards and processes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, hospital administrators, faculty, residents, staff, and representatives of other organizations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize and work independently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning, a growth mindset, and a reflective humanistic approach to working with learners and colleagues.
  • Ability to provide executive briefings to upper management with appropriate analysis, write detailed/complex business strategy proposals, and provide upper management with appropriate details.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

    • Instructor- $80,000- $200,000 as 0.40 FTE equivalent in salary support plus benefits. This range is not in addition to your current salary.
    • Sr. Instructor- $80,000- $200,000 as 0.40 FTE equivalent in salary support plus benefits. This range is not in addition to your current salary.
    • Assistant Professor- $80,000- $200,000 as 0.40 FTE equivalent in salary support plus benefits. This range is not in addition to your current salary.
