Summary of Duties:


The primary focus of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) program is business development education through individual and small group advising. As the Associate Business Advisor, you will act as an instructor, delivering basic, intermediate, and advanced workshops to educate entrepreneurs and small business owners. In the process, you will maintain strict confidentiality of all client information and follow conflict of interest policies of the SBDC program.

In addition to the instruction/advising component of the job, you will also assist in the development and presentation of program materials and training programs to the community through regular engagement with Chambers of Commerce, Economic Development Councils, service clubs and community organizations. Additionally, you will provide technical assistance for developing program materials, information security, and other assignments. Use the SBDC Client Management Database. Duties are performed under general supervision and mentorship of the Associate State Director.

Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in business or related field and two (2) years of experience in business ownership, business management and/or program development. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. These positions may require additional licenses or certifications.

  • Strong computer skills including demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel.

  • Within six (6) months of hire, complete or be making satisfactory progress toward completion as determined by the SBDC's Certification and Professional Development Committee, the Washington SBDC certification. Upon successful completion, the candidate will be designated a Certified Business Advisor (CBA) and will be expected to pursue on-going professional development and continuing education to maintain their certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated local economic development, community, and business relationships.

  • Experience in working with and/or advising small businesses doing market research and assisting with program development.

  • Experienced in Cyber Security and/or Cyber Security Training.

  • Experience in working within a business advising or SBDC network.

  • Two (2) or more years of small business ownership and/or management.

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field.

Monthly Salary: $3,751 - $4,800 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
