Primary Purpose of Department

Primary Purpose of Position
Leading communications, PR, and media relations strategy and execution for all athletics teams. This will include direct oversight of the communications planning process, an ability to cultivate and strengthen media relationships, and an ability to draft issues statements and executive communications.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
Direct oversight of the communications planning process, an ability to cultivate and strengthen media relationships, and an ability to draft issues statements and executive communications. This role will be responsible for coaching, managing, and developing a team of direct reports and will maintain an active presence with all internal and external stakeholders.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, marketing, or a related degree.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in college athletics, professional sports, or at a PR agency, or other communications division in the education or the private sector.
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct team supervision – football and/or men’s basketball preferred.
  • A proven track record of managing multiple programs and execution from concept through implementation and measurement.
  • Self-motivated and able to multitask/manage multiple priorities.
  • Broad knowledge of current events, industry, and business news.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience with managing budgets.
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including game nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
