Position Overview :

Carleton College, a highly selective, nationally-ranked liberal arts college in Northfield, Minnesota, seeks to hire an Associate Athletic Director to collaborate with the Athletic Director/Department Chair in providing leadership, support, strategic direction and oversight for the daily operations of the 20 intercollegiate athletics programs. Responsibilities will include compliance and eligibility tracking, ARMS software administration and integration oversight, assisting the Athletic Director with sport supervision, providing oversight and leadership for athletic event coordinator, and the development and annual review of departmental policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Oversee compliance of MIAC and NCAA rules and policies with the Athletic Director.

  • ARMS Software administrator responsible for tracking eligibility, calendars, roster management, recruiting and alumni data.

  • Oversight of the gear contract including branding, spending, equity and evaluation as it relates to the agreement.

  • Assist the Athletic Director with sport supervision.

  • Assist the Athletic Director with budgetary planning, departmental policy development, personnel hiring and coach evaluations.

  • Oversight of the NCAA Health Care Administrator regarding NCAA policies, medical staff, medical compliance forms and coordinating medical well-being meetings. 

  • Oversight of athletic event management by providing support and leadership for the Athletic Event Coordinator for efficient athletic event operations; lead administrator for MIAC/NCAA playoffs, regional events and championships.

  • Represent Carleton at the MIAC and NCAA level at MIAC Athletic Director Council meetings, NCAA Regional Rules seminars, the NCAA Inclusion Forum and the NCAA Convention.

  • Understand and support students who are balancing multiple responsibilities as students and athletes in a rigorous academic environment.

  • Oversight of sports information director, including the website, publications, and social media.

  • Other duties as assigned.
     


Education/Experience/Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.

  • Previous sport administration experience or progressively responsible work experience in a leadership position on an athletics/sports team and/or in coaching management, preferably in a supervisory capacity.

  • Ability to foster a positive, organized and enriching experience for the student athletes and staff.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able organize and interact functionally, orally and in writing, with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff, with a commitment to equity, inclusion and diversity.

  • The ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented office environment and interact in a positive manner with students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the public.

  • Strong organizational and mentoring skills.

  • Valid driver’s license (required).
     

Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral work instructions, operations, safety procedures, and hazardous labels.
