Position Summary
The Associate Director, Principal Gifts Prospect Management & Pipeline Development is an integral member of the Prospect Development team in the Office of University Advancement at William & Mary and will lead Prospect Development activities related to the principal gift program to include prospect identification, pipeline analysis, and research.
Reporting dually to the Director of Pipeline Development and the Assistant Vice President of Principal Gifts & Gift Planning, the Associate Director is responsible for developing and managing principal gifts program research, analysis and pipeline ($1M+) throughout the donor cycle and for coordinating the efforts of various teams that drive research and pipeline development for principal gifts donors and prospects. The Associate Director exercises independent initiative while collaborating and partners with the principal gifts program team, prospect analysts and development staff to identify pipeline improvement and growth. In conjunction with the Director, they determine methods used to capture and monitor movement and results, providing Advancement leadership and management with actionable intelligence for informed decision making. The Associate Director will also develop reports, analytics, visual aids and aggregations of data to capture key performance indicators, to better prioritize principal gift prospects and donors. The Associate Director is the key prospect development partner responsible for managing research briefings and delivering presentations to senior leadership and the principal gift team..

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education, training and or experience.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, including, but not limited to, collaboration, staffing and programming.
  • Experience in prospect/development research, prospect management/tracking within an academic, nonprofit, corporate, or consulting environment

· Significant experience in querying, comparing, and managing data in a large scale, complex relational database such as Blackbaud CRM (BBCRM). )
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new programs, systems, and online services, and apply them to fundraising needs.
  • Exceptional analytical skills to synthesize a high volume of information from a variety of sources and perform complex analysis to produce actionable reports that are usable and actionable to a variety of fundraising professionals.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of research techniques, including web-based research and database reporting.
  • Expert written and verbal communication skills with the ability to summarize and convey complex and technical information in a clear, concise manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent initiative, sound judgment and work under minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of a client-relationship management system (e.g., Blackbaud) and data reporting tools.
  • Experience at a non-profit higher education institution or foundation setting.
