Assistant Volleyball Coach/Recruiting Coordinator

To assist and support, under the supervision of the Head Coach, the development and function of the University of San Diego’s Women’s Volleyball team, which is an NCAA Division I program in the West Coast Conference. Act as the team’s recruiting coordinator while performing on-court coaching and scouting duties. Act as the liaison between the team and the marketing and communications department and the academics department while performing miscellaneous administrative duties as they occur.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Recruiting Coordinator:

  • Assist in the identification and recruiting of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes for admission to the University with adherence to admissions and athletic department policies and procedures.
  • Organize staff recruiting schedule.
  • Complete the NCAA Coaches’ recruiting certification annually.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of University Athlete and keep notes, evaluations and prospect communications up to date.
  • Maintain records of calls, contacts and evaluations through Jump Forward
  • Unofficial visits - Coordinate unofficial visits in keeping with appropriate NCAA regulations.
  • Official visits – Coordinate official visits, including travel, the involvement of current players, arrangements for meals and entertainment. Arrange for academic meetings with faculty members and for an academic class with one of the players. Provide tours of campus.
  • Create social media content, recruiting questionnaires and any other tools to attract prospects and promote USD volleyball and the University as a whole.

On Court Coaching and Scouting:

  • Supervision of players in a coordinated and planned program of practices and competition, with a concern for the players’ health and welfare, physical and psychological preparation.
  • Assist with the organization and implementation of daily practices.
  • Direct on-court coaching responsibilities (as assigned by the head coach).
  • Assist with the development and improvement of player skills. Work with individual players before and after practice, when requested.
  • Assist in creating scouting reports and video montages of our opponents.

Marketing and Social Media Liaison:

  • Work alongside sports information to create a calendar of social media posts to attract both recruits and followers of the program.
  • Create content for the program.
  • Work with the marketing department on the plan and implementation of in game entertainment.

Academic Liaison:

  • Connect with current athletes to ensure academic success.
  • With the support of the academic advisor, communicate to the head coach potential travel conflicts and identify resources to provide to the athletes.

Miscellaneous Administrative Duties:

  • Summer camp organization and hiring of staff.
  • Prepare end of the season team banquet.
  • Willingness to work at tasks assigned by staff including but not limited to equipment, travel, scheduling, mentoring, statistics and university relations.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be able to travel for extended periods of time for athletic and recruiting events.
  • Successful completion of required background checks.
