Development has an exciting opening for an Assistant Vice President for Health Sciences. This is a full-time, permanent position.   

The new Assistant Vice President for Health Sciences serve as a senior-level strategic thought partners and key collaborators to the deans and Chief Advancement Officers (CAO) of assigned colleges and schools, as well as to the Vice President of Development. This cohort leader will supervise, coach and champion their assigned CAOs, helping to implement strategies and secure resources that build and strengthen advancement programs in support of unit, cohort, and university-wide priorities. The cohort leader will have demonstrated an ability to improve organizational effectiveness and results by providing strategic acumen, direction, and leadership.

The cohort leader will be senior fundraising professionals with a track record of success in managing high performing teams, engaging prospects, as well as securing six- and seven-figure gifts. They will partner with assigned CAOs and Deans to successfully grow a comprehensive fundraising program and build fundraising capacity to advance the UW’s impact.

The cohort leader will work closely with the VP of Development to maximize opportunities and address challenges facing members of their cohorts.  They will have access to and lead strategic partnerships that maximize the power of the UW’s integrated model, working across Advancement disciplines to ensure strategies are comprehensive and in step with the University’s open cultivation and profound engagement philosophies. The cohort leader will help reduce bottlenecks at key decision-making points and improve organizational effectiveness and efficiency.

What You Will Do:

Leadership and Management (40%)

•     Foster a culture of high performance and creativity among the cohort, encouraging inclusive management and leadership practices.
•     Ensure CAOs and deans achieve campaign readiness, including developing a compelling vision, identifying prospects, volunteers and meaningful engagement strategies by unit and for the cohort as a whole.
•     Guide and support CAOs in achieving established fundraising metrics and goals.
•     Offer training and mentorship opportunities to CAOs to enhance their professional development.

Frontline Fundraising and Relationship Management (30%)

•     Within our open cultivation environment, this professional will partner with University leadership; actively manage a portfolio of leadership and principal gift donors and prospects to supplement CAO portfolios and the cohort’s objectives.
•     Collaborate with CAOs, deans and the Vice President for Development to establish ambitious, realistic and measurable fundraising goals.
•     Partner with University deans, CAOs and University leadership on activities and initiatives aimed at attracting private support.
•     Conduct strategic assessment of existing philanthropic strengths and opportunities within the assigned cohort.
•     In close collaboration with CAOs ensure successful planning and execution of fundraising programs. This includes principal, major and planned gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation gifts, as well as donor recognition and stewardship in partnership with central Advancement teams.

Strategy Development (30%)

•     Collaborate with CAOs and Advancement leadership to build and implement advancement programs that align with strategic initiatives set by the dean’s and the University.
•     Provide strategic counsel to dean’s, CAOs and the Vice President for Development to ensure successful execution of a strategic plan for the assigned schools and colleges.
•     Assess and make resource allocation recommendations to effectively address challenges and opportunities that will foster growth of school, college and unit advancement operations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree with at least ten years of progressively responsible experience within the field of development.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

What You Bring:

•     Prior administrative and leadership experience in a large, complex higher education or fundraising environment, including evidence of vision and effective strategic planning and implementation.
•     Prior campaign experience.
•     An understanding of the importance of, and demonstrated success in, promoting diversity and inclusion among staff and volunteers.
•     Demonstrated success developing and deepening authentic relationships with a wide array of stakeholders, both internal and external.
•     Exceptional interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

What You Can Expect:

•     Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
•     Some local and domestic travel is required.
