The Office of Advancement helps Belmont University achieve its mission by building a stronger community of support for the entire campus amongst all its constituencies.  In collaboration with university partners, Advancement is leading the effort to prepare for the most ambitious fundraising campaign in the university’s history.  Building on a track record of success, Belmont University is undergoing a period of growth and is actively increasing its institutional advancement capacity and capabilities so it can realize its full potential as a Christ-centered university in the thriving city of Nashville, TN.  The Office of Advancement is led by Executive Vice President Dave Rosselli.
Position Overview
The AVP for Development, Colleges and Units provides leadership and direction for all development related activity for the following colleges at Belmont University.

  • Jack C. Massey College of Business
  • Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business
  • College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
  • College of Music and Performing Arts
  • Watkins College of Art
  • College of Education
  • O’More College of Architecture and Design
  • College of Law

The AVP partners with college deans and leads a team of development professionals to build and support a new college and unit-based fundraising model at Belmont University.  Additionally, the AVP will be the primary development partner for one to two colleges and carry a significant major gift portfolio.  Finally, the AVP provides direction and oversight for the Annual Giving program.  The AVP wills serve in a key leadership capacity for the development team and play an instrumental role in the larger campaign planning process for the Let Hope Abound comprehensive campaign for Belmont University.

Job Responsibilities
College Support and Advancement Leadership / Management

  • Hire, train and supervise directors of development within a college and unit based fundraising team.
  • Provide advancement expertise and executional acumen to build a new fundraising model for deans and other campus partners for Belmont University colleges.
  • Collaborate with respective deans, directors/senior directors, or other senior administrators in developing impactful philanthropic agendas—consistent with Belmont University’s college and unit strategic plan and for major and prospective donors.
  • In collaboration with the deputy CAO, provide direction and support for college-based campaign planning and related activities.
  • Partner with the Deputy CAO to motivate staff behavior, maintain and build a positive culture, and establish efficient and productive fundraising strategies and methods.
  • Provide direct liaison support to one to two college deans in support of college based fundraising model.

Portfolio Management

  • Build, grow and manage a portfolio of 50-75 major gift prospects and donors.
  • Develop and execute effective fundraising strategies consistent with donor interests and college-based fundraising priorities.

Annual Giving

  • Guide a growing and talented annual giving team to deliver a more robust program to build a stronger donor pipeline, generate more annual giving dollars, and increase donor participation.

Goals and Metrics

  • In partnership with the Deputy CAO, establish goals and metrics for all college-based fundraising programs and corresponding team members.
  • Collaborate with other University Development team members to inspire trust, encourage creative thinking, and collaborate with other Belmont staff and volunteers to significantly increase private gifts to Belmont.

Required Education Qualified applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Master’s degree preferred.
  
Required Experience 10+ years of experience working in University Advancement or in a commensurate fundraising and/or business development role.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and hear sufficiently to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes. The employee’s vision must be adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc. The position requires good manual dexterity. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing as necessary.
