About the Department
The Division of External Affairs, Partnerships, and Economic Development (EAPED) builds mutually beneficial relationships between NC State University and industry, government, and non-profit organizations; streamlines access to important resources to help existing and potential partners who want to work with the University; and aligns businesses and other organizations that are interested in relocating or expanding in North Carolina with University talent, research, and other assets. NC State’s Centennial Campus is a university research park that provides proximity to world-class researchers, workers, and students – all in an amenity-rich environment. EAPED cultivates partnerships with organizations that desire to engage with the University, developing win-win relationships while advancing innovation locally and globally.
The Office of Partnerships, a unit within EAPED, actively manages more than 120 partnerships between NC State and industry, government, and non-profit organizations, with 70 of these partnerships based on the Centennial Campus. The Office of Partnerships works to build and grow long-term, strategic collaborations to provide meaningful opportunities to faculty and students, foster innovation, and spur economic growth.
Essential Job Duties
The Assistant Vice Chancellor, Partnerships position will report directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Partnerships, and serve a key leadership role for the partnerships team. This will include having focused responsibility for the partnership development team and the institutional partnership portfolio. This role will lead a new institutional process to coordinate partnering activity and engagement across the university to drive measurable impact in alignment with the Wolfpack 2030 Strategic Plan. The position will serve as a key representative of the Partnerships Office internal to the university and externally among partners and key stakeholders.
This role will focus on the following primary responsibilities as a key leadership role on the Partnerships Team at NC State:
  • Management and development of staff related to partnership development as well as the institutional partnering and corporate engagement portfolio
  • Leadership and management of a new institutional process to coordinate partnering and corporate engagement activity across NC State including management of key partnering impact metrics
  • Lead the definition, formation, execution, and institutionalization of a university partnering strategy
  • Identification and development of innovative partnering and collaboration models through understanding partner needs and market trends while maintaining consistency with the vision and strategy of the university
  • Internal and external leadership representation of the Office of Partnerships among key stakeholders and through engagement in UIDP, AURP, and NACRO as key professional organizations important to the office and university
  • Office administration including managing budgets, expenses, and administrative affairs

Division of Responsibilities:
  • Partnership development and management – 35%
  • Institutional partnering and corporate engagement process administration – 30%
  • Strategy development and innovation partnering model development – 20%
  • Office administration – 15%

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a relevant post-baccalaureate degree with a minimum of three (3) years or greater of related professional experience 

OR
  • Relevant undergraduate degree, and a minimum of five (5) years or greater of relevant experience may be substituted for the advanced degree.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience and success in leading and managing large programs consisting of multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Proven experience and success in collaboration and partnering
  • Proven track record in planning, managing, and executing strategic initiatives
  • Familiarity with the complex organizational structure and culture of a large research university
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently (written and verbal) among various audiences and stakeholders
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing demands and priorities
  • Ability to utilize numerous computer applications required including Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams), Google Workspace, or similar programs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or PhD preferred with applied technical competency and experience aligned to key business needs areas and strategic capability areas at NC State
  • Understanding of business and/or university strategy and administration processes
  • 10+ years of professional experience in business and/or university administration
