Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant to the Chair - Boca Raton, FL.

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) welcomes applications for the position of Assistant to the Chair. This pivotal role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the dynamic and innovative environment of EECS at FAU. As the Assistant to the Chair, you will be integral in supporting the department’s academic and administrative functions, engaging with students and faculty, and facilitating the smooth operation of our diverse programs. Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Chair's calendar, managing day-to-day scheduling to ensure efficient coordination of meetings, appointments, and travel plans. This role involves liaising with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate smooth time management.

  • Provide support for program management by assisting in overseeing and administering departmental programs. Responsibilities include coordinating across teams, monitoring program timelines and deliverables, and aligning activities with the broader organizational goals.

  • Handle a range of administrative tasks, such as managing correspondence, preparing reports, and maintaining records.

  • Serve as a facilitator for stakeholder communication, acting as a key point of contact between the Chair, other staff, external partners, and stakeholders. This includes effectively conveying information and maintaining collaborative relationships.

  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and student organizations to enhance the overall student experience within the department. This involves actively participating in the planning and execution of student-centered initiatives and programs.

  • Facilitate student access to departmental resources, ensuring they are well-informed and supported in their academic and extracurricular endeavors. This includes aiding in the coordination of workshops, seminars, and other student-focused events.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and one year of appropriate experience required
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Bachelor's degree with four years appropriate experience or master's degree with two years appropriate experience.
Strong Communication Skills: Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective interaction with a diverse range of individuals, including faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.
Proficiency in Technology: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with various other computer applications and systems are essential.
Experience in Higher Education or Student Services: Prior experience working in a higher education setting or a role focused on student services is preferred. This experience should highlight an understanding of academic environments and the ability to cater to student needs effectively.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time-management skills are crucial. The candidate should be adept at multitasking, prioritizing tasks, and managing a complex schedule in a fast-paced environment.
Problem-Solving Abilities: Must have excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and provide solutions in challenging situations.
Teamwork and Collaboration: Should demonstrate a strong capacity for teamwork and collaboration, working effectively with various departmental teams to achieve common goals.

Salary:

$55,000 - $65,000 per year.
