Unit Mission Statement
The Mathematics Department at William & Mary allows students to design a major based on their own interests and career goals and prepares students for post-baccalaureate employment and for further study of mathematical sciences and related disciplines. There are three concentrations within the major: Standard Concentration; Applied Mathematics Concentration; and Pre-College Mathematics Teaching Concentration. Study options include applied and pure mathematics, operations research, and statistics. Students may also pursue a mathematics minor; and design elective programs needed for careers in actuarial science and industrial mathematics, for interdisciplinary work in fields such as economics, business and social sciences, or for graduate studies.
Position Summary
The Department of Mathematics at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor instructional position with an initial two-year appointment term that will begin on August 10, 2024. This appointment has a service component commensurate with rank. This appointment may be renewable contingent upon department needs, availability of funds, and performance review. We seek an individual with expertise in Mathematics and knowledge of Data Science applications. The successful applicant will be expected to be an experienced & effective teacher and will have a 3-3 teaching load. Possible mathematics course assignments include, but are not limited to single- and multi-variable calculus, linear algebra, introduction to methods of proof, and statistical data analysis.
Required Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2024).
Preferred Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Mathematics with knowledge of applications to Data Science
