Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach

High Point University Athletic department is seeking an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. This position plans, implements and manages a program of on- and off-field athletic development to enhance the performance levels and well being of the University’s student athletes in 17 NCAA Division I sport.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or related field required; Master’s degree preferred

Experience and Training

  • Minimum two years’ experience in strength and conditioning at the collegiate level, preferably Division I
  • CSCS, SCCC or USAW Certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

  • Understanding of all sports and the training principals behind them
  • Ability to design sport-specific speed, quickness, and agility workouts
  • Ability to relate to and work with student athletes, coaches, faculty, and the general public

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :  

  • Designs and implements strength and conditioning programs, which include power, strength, speed, agility, flexibility, nutrition and conditioning for 17 varsity sports
  • Provides on-field instruction of Speed, Conditioning, Plyometric, Proprioception and sport- specific athletic enhancement; organizes all team and/or general sessions
  • Ensures safe and correct execution of exercise techniques
  • Evaluates athletes and integrates speed development to the strength development program including, but not limited to, acceleration, change of direction, top-end speed, agility, plyometric development, flexibility, vertical jump training, and energy system conditioning
  • Monitors, documents and reports athletes’ progress, including strength, speed, power and explosion metrics, to all athletes and coaches
  • Collaborates with athletic training staff in development of rehab protocols for injured athletes as well as development of alternative training methods for injured/rehabilitating athletes
  • Maintains an open line of communication with the other members of the strength staff, sport coaches, and athletes
  • Meets with recruits as requested by sport coaches
  • Ensures upkeep and maintenance of the weight room
  • Provides assistance, instruction and monitoring of weight room activity during times conducive to athletes and strength and conditioning staff
  • Maintains positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with students, students’ parents, faculty, co-workers and managers
  • Other duties as assigned
