The department of The Miami Project has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Assistant Scientist to work at UHealth. The Assistant Scientist, SOM carries out a particular research agenda in support of the University’s research goals and objectives. Moreover, the Assistant Scientist, SOM contributes to the scientific community by publishing research findings and promotes the University’s reputation as a leader in the field.

  • Employs traumatic brain and spinal cord injury model, as well as other possible animal models to examine mechanistic functions and translate these functions to preclinical studies.

  • Performs animal work: surgery, behavior, and tissue analysis.

  • Employs Omics, bioinformatic analysis, and machine learning approaches.

  • Writes manuscripts and present data in lectures and conferences.

  • Experimental experience with western blot, flow analysis, stereology, immunohistochemistry, and/or motor behavior assessments.

  • Mentors students and junior technicians.

  • Maintains good lab practices and performs all duties with the highest scientific ethics and animal care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree relevant field

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required. Preferred Five years of postdoctoral experience.

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
