The Center on Violence and Recovery (CVR) is dedicated to advancing knowledge on the causes and consequences of violence and trauma, and developing solutions that foster healing among individuals, families, and communities. We innovate by developing cutting-edge solutions to promote healing and transformation, study by conducting research on critical issues related to trauma and restoration, and educate by offering trainings, workshops, and lectures on topics related to trauma and healing. 

CVR is seeking an energetic and well-organized self-starter looking to work for a small academic research center, specifically to help advance our work on restorative justice and domestic violence and to develop a national strategy.  The ideal candidate will be a creative, independent, flexible, collegial, and detail-oriented person with interests in research, program development, outreach, and film related to violence and trauma.  The Assistant Director of Research Scientist/Assistant Director of Development and Education is a key member of the CVR team, working closely with the Executive Director to articulate and carry out the strategic vision of CVR. The Assistant Director Research Scientist/Assistant Director of Development and Education plays a critical role in interfacing with government agency representatives and community-based organizations, identifying opportunities and drafting concept papers or other material relevant to dialogue around restorative justice and related outcomes, working with leadership to help direct where to focus efforts and develop execution strategies for various projects/programs. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

75% - Research project management, research program development, outreach, education, and training

  • Support the planning, development, and implementation of CVR's restorative justice model for domestic violence and other harms in partnership with community-based organizations and other stakeholders and project partners including DC

  •  Support various communities by staffing weekly community partner meetings, researching needs, and being responsive to community clients' requests;

  • Collaborate with partners, funders, and other constituents to plan affiliated projects;

  •  Research and identify funding opportunities and strategies; collaboratively draft grant proposals; secure funding for CVR's research initiatives and other related projects;

  •  Plan research events, engagements, and convenings with stakeholders in the field;

  •   Support the planning, development and execution of our quarterly convenings of community partners  

  •  Provide strategic, logistical, and technical support for research projects, program adaption, and implementation of studies and programs;

  •  Draft dissemination materials such as concept papers, presentations, one‐pagers, and reports as well as grant reports and other reports to funders; 

  • Interface with government agency representatives, community-based organizations, and other project and potential project partners;

  •  Interface with university partners, and other Centers and Institutes within the university;

  • Conduct literature searches and assist with data collection, coding, and analysis;

  • Support data collection for CVR studies;

  • Develop training materials, and organize and coordinate CVR trainings and events, in collaboration with colleagues;

  • Assist with monitoring budgets and tracking deliverables and outcomes;

  • Coordinate and process reimbursements and financial tracking of various grants, contracts, and project

  • Book travel for all grant-related trips

25% - Communications 

  • Assist with maintaining the CVR website, and managing CVR's social media presence;

  • Coordinate the flow of information between CVR and our project partners; 

  • Assist with the hiring and supervising of student workers; 

  • Engage in special projects.

  • Engage in event planning and coordination

The ideal candidate exhibits the characteristics below and demonstrates a desire to be an important contributor to a collegial team.  

Required:  

  • Bachelor's degree with concentration or course work in social work, public policy, psychology, or related field.

  • 5 years of relevant experience in academic or research setting or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Experience researching and writing state and federal grants.

  • Experience in non-profit organizations or government agencies that work on domestic violence and/or restorative justice issues.

  • Knowledge of grant opportunities, writing, and proposal development.

  • Ability to contribute to grant writing and reporting process. 

  • Some knowledge of research methods (quantitative and qualitative) and statistics.

  • Willingness to work as part of a team

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.  

  • Ability to solve problems and interact with individuals at all levels. 

  • Ability to work and communicate with diverse stakeholders. 

  • Ability to complete detail-oriented tasks with accuracy and timeliness and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Willingness to take on assignments or tasks within short notice. 

Preferred:  

  • Master's degree in social work, public policy, or related field and/or a JD

  • Experience working in a start-up environment. 

  • Experience working in a research setting preferred.

This is a one-year fixed-term position.
