JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Okafor lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Pennsylvania State University seeks to hire an assistant research professor to tackle a host of exciting projects. We are interested in deciphering structural mechanisms of events in protein regulation, determining how these mechanisms evolved, and how they are altered in disease states. Our lab will provide an exciting, collaborative environment where a researcher can thrive, contribute to establishing new directions for our group, and receive support and mentoring for success in their desired future career. Salary will be commensurate with the career stage.

Desired qualities in ideal candidate:

i) possess a Ph.D. in biochemistry, biology, chemistry or related fields,

ii) possess 15 years or more of research experience,

iii) possess motivation to learn additional biochemical and molecular biological techniques as necessary,

iv) be willing to work both independently and as part of a team,

v)  will contribute to junior mentorship in our lab.

Candidates with experience in structural biology are highly encouraged to apply.

Applicants should submit a cover letter containing a description of their research interests and future goals. Applicants should also include a summary (< 1pg) of their previous research, highlighting an instance when they took leadership of a project and outcomes. This is a term appointment, funded for one year from date of hire, with a possibility of renewal.
