Position Description Summary:
The Biostatistics Center (Center) of the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health (GWSPH) is recruiting three 12-month research faculty positions at the level of Assistant Research Professor of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics and/or Epidemiology to serve as Co-Investigator on existing grants studying diabetes, cancer, and other conditions. The candidate will be a member of the faculty within the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics (DBB), the Department of Epidemiology (DEPI), or other department within the Milken Institute School of Public Health, and participate in associated service and educational activities. Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Applicants pending completion of the dissertation will be considered for a conditional specialized faculty appointment at the rank of Research Instructor and must have their doctoral degree conferred within 6 months of the start date of the position.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will join a highly competent team of research biostatisticians and epidemiologists, contribute to the design and analysis of major medical studies, seek substantive scientific responsibility and statistical leadership, interact with medical investigators, participate in data analysis and publication of major papers in leading medical journals, and make an impact on issues important to public health through contributions in multiple facets of project involvement. The successful candidates will be expected to cultivate expertise in the design, conduct, analysis, and reporting of multi-center collaborative research projects while developing into a leadership role for NIH-funded coordinating center projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have:
-Completed all of the requirements for a doctorate in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or related field, by date of appointment (or within 6-months of the date of appointment),
-Excellent oral and written communication skills,
-Pre or post doctoral collaborative medical research experience in, but not limited to, diabetes, aging, brain health, -omics, or cancer, and publications as a co-investigator.
Advertised Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience.

Twenty faculty members at the Center provide biostatistical leadership and manage $60-65 million annually for projects in medical areas such as diabetes, maternal fetal medicine, infectious disease, and cardiovascular disease.

The Department of Epidemiology has 23 full-time faculty and 24 part-time faculty, with a majority funded by NIH and/or CDC. Key areas of funded research in the Department currently include HIV and other infectious diseases, public health laboratory research in HIV and other infectious diseases, cancer, diabetes, maternal/fetal health, substance and tobacco use, and Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias.
