JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a non-tenure-line Assistant Research Professor for the laboratory of Huanyu "Larry" Cheng. The Cheng Lab focuses on design strategies, novel fabrication processes, and biomedical applications of highly sensitive and selective on-skin sensors, stretchable sustained power supplies, and wireless transmission modules. This position involves the design, fabrication, and application of wearable electronics and stretchable standalone device platforms for biomedicine. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervise graduate students.

  • Co-author journal articles.

  • Prepare grant proposals.

  • Assist with maintenance and inventory of lab supplies, as well as assist with reconciling expenses.

  • Produce and maintain lab protocols and reports, including experiment results and health and safety protocols.

  • Prepare and present research and technical results based on lab efforts.

  • Collaborate with other members of the lab, as well as with various agencies and departments at Penn State, to support ongoing research. This includes identifying and resolving research and development issues, designing and maintaining research equipment, ensuring all health and safety protocols are being followed in accordance with the latest guidelines, and discussing goals, action items, and outcomes for the lab.

Qualifications:


The Assistant Research Professor should possess a Ph.D. in Engineering Science and Mechanics or a closely related field by the appointment start date. Alternatively, the Assistant Research Professor without a terminal degree should possess at least a master's degree, must have demonstrated ability as a researcher, and must have shown evidence of professional growth and scholarship in their discipline.

 

The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of the engineering of biomedical applications of highly sensitive and selective on-skin sensors, stretchable sustained power supplies, and wireless transmission modules. At least two years of experience in engineering/design of biomedical devices is preferred. Experience with grant writing and compliance is a plus.

Additional Information:

This is a term appointment, funded for one year from date of hire, with a possibility of renewal.
