Job Description:

Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs/Chief Academic Officer (CAO)
Non-Unit Professional position
Campus Location: Danvers and Lynn Campuses, 4 days on-site, 1 day remote (telework is subject to change based on the needs of the department and/or College.)
Work Schedule: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week, 12 months
SALARY: Anticipated salary range $162,000.00 - $172,000.00. Actual salary is commensurate with experience and education. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs serves as the Chief Academic Officer (CAO), providing leadership in high-quality equity-minded curriculum, instruction, and faculty development; assessment, program review policies, and procedures; accreditation; College-wide academic collaboration; communication with state and regional entities who work with our students towards equitable life outcomes; and direction to the Academic Affairs division as part of the Division of Student and Academic Success. The Assistant Provost participates in regional, state, and national professional organizations, coordination within the College, and collaborates with transfer partners and employers to advance the core principles of the College's mission, vision, and strategic priorities. The Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs is the key leader in achieving student success goals under the College's strategic plan and will be expected to review and enhance internal academic processes to ensure progress toward performance expectations. The Assistant Provost/CAO serves as a member of the President's Cabinet.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide overall leadership and direction to Academic Affairs in the establishment, implementation, organization, and management of the following: academic scheduling and programming; accreditation matters; curriculum development; education policy; technology applications in teaching and learning; assessment of student learning outcomes; institutional and faculty development; personnel policies; program review; recruitment of faculty and staff; resource allocation, design of learning spaces
  • Utilize and further develop the skills of an outstanding faculty to evaluate current programs for currency, efficiency, and effectiveness; foster the development of high demand and innovative academic and career programs to enhance NSCC's role in the community; advance the college in its dual role as a transfer institution and as a career and workforce development agent
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with businesses, government agencies, high schools, other community colleges, and universities to facilitate the planning and delivery of academic programs and services and build academic pathways to enhance student success goals
  • Work collegially with executive leadership to achieve the goals of the extended Strategic Plan
  • Make recommendations on budgeting, strategic planning, and long-term direction of the College
  • Address the needs of historically underserved students by developing and maintaining effective strategies for retention and credential completion
  • Strive to close achievement gaps among students from different ethnic, racial, and income groups in all areas of educational progress
  • Improve the college's performance in each key outcome stipulated by the Department of Higher Education (DHE), including the Equity Agenda, steady progress in retention and degree and program completion, workforce development, and overall student success
  • Provide management for the Academic Deans of the College and ensure external accreditation, articulation, and transfer standards are met
  • Serve as liaison for NECHE college-wide accreditation reviews and site visits
  • Use data analysis to provide advisement as needed for program reviews as performed across the College
  • Assists in aligning our credit and non-credit offerings at the College
  • Arbitrate student grade appeals and suspension appeals
  • Serve as a permanent member of the President's Cabinet
  • Serve as a permanent member of the college's union negotiating unit, MACER
  • Serve as an advisory member of the college's REJI (Racial Equity Justice Institute) teams
  • Serve as an advisory member of the Curriculum Committee and Academic Policy governance groups

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Provost, Student and Academic Success
SUPERVISION EXERCISED : Director of Academic Operations, Academic Deans (Health Professions, Liberal Studies, Human Services and Emergency Response Pathways, STEM & Business), Director of CTLI, Senior Coordinator of Program Assessment, Dean of Postsecondary Transitions, and Dean of Student Success (Title III).

Requirements:

  • Earned Doctorate or comparable terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D, MFA, etc) from an accredited institution
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in higher education administration
  • At least 3-5 years of teaching experience in academic affairs working with students having diverse academic skill levels and cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated history of academic leadership and scholarly innovation
  • Demonstrated experience and strong understanding of academic programs, curriculum development, academic quality, and assessment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Strategic planning and budget management experience
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and processes
  • Ability to foster equity-minded initiatives within and beyond the academic community
  • Experience in promoting interdisciplinary collaborations and innovative teaching and research initiatives
  • Demonstrated commitment to upholding institutional values and fostering a positive academic culture
  • Demonstrated commitment to shared governance and faculty development
  • Evidence of effective leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a CAO or in a similar senior academic leadership role, such as Chair, Dean, Assistant Dean, Vice Provost, etc.
  • Evidence of successful academic program development and enhancement
  • Experience with institutional research and data-informed decision-making
  • Familiarity with emerging trends and best practices in higher education
  • Ability to engage with external stakeholders, including alumni, donors, and community partners
  • Experience with international education programs and initiatives
  • Experience with online and hybrid learning modalities
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory issues affecting higher education institutions
  • Experience teaching at a community college
  • Evidence of success working and positive engagement with a unionized workforce
  • Bilingual or Multilingual in Spanish
