    Position description

Serves as a primary researcher, providing a supporting role to the PI. Working with only minimal supervision, and often independently, performs tasks that support the setup and active research on projects involving genomics and epigenomics of invertebrate species. Takes a primary role in designing and carrying out the experiments, and then analyze the data and draft the resulting paper(s). Molecular biology and computational skillsets are needed. Additionally, assists the PI with writing a series of grants to support the lab research long term, thus developing key research questions in the field of genomics and epigenomics of non-model species.

The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service as appropriate to the position.

    • Daily 40% Laboratory research: Conducting organismal experiments in the lab independently or with graduate students or postdoctoral scholars, leads or assists with analysis and writing. Works with PI to help write grants to fund the laboratory experiments (option to be listed as a co-PI).

    • Daily 40% Computational research: Works largely independently, and sometimes managing others (e.g. grads and undergrads) to analyze computational genomics data that have been collected. Assists in setting up the lab computational pipelines and testing them. Takes a primary role in leading the analyses team.

    • Daily 10% Laboratory management: Attends lab meetings, meets regularly with PI for progress reports and guidance, provides general lab support duties such as purchasing necessary supplies and equipment, maintaining stock of necessary items, assisting in lab chores as needed.
