Who we are

Public Partnership & Outreach (PPO) in the Office of the Provost provides services to enhance the relationships, outreach, and scholarly engagement of faculty, departments, and colleges, as well as the Division of Academic Affairs. Our experienced staff facilitates collaborative outreach to the public and various constituent communities with the goal of strengthening Texas A&M University’s service to the citizens of Texas. Our goal is to provide advice and support for the design and assessment of outreach programs, protocol, communication, event management, and partnership services. PPO's Texas Target Communities Program is a service learning program and university-wide community engagement initiative of the College of Architecture, the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning and the Public Partnership & Outreach at Texas A&M University.

SUMMARY:   Texas A&M University seeks an Assistant Program Leader, Texas Target Communities to work in College Station, Texas.

JOB DUTIES:

  • PROGRAMS: Develops, implements, coordinates, and evaluates the strategic goals of the program. Provides leadership on planning-related project activities in small urban and rural communities. Supervises and provides guidance at community engagement workshops on visioning, goal setting, and needs assessments. Writes and edits products and compiles into user friendly format. Coordinates with student workers, graduate and/or research assistants, and faculty on service-learning projects. Supervises program coordinators, program aides, project managers and participant volunteers. Monitors the program to in compliance with all department, University, and government standards, policies, and procedures.

  • OUTREACH AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE: Plans, directs, and coordinates operational matters, outreach activities and provide technical assistance that supports the goals and objectives of TTC. This includes working with Institute for Sustainable Communities, Community Resilience Collaborative, and affiliated partners, providing hands-on technical assistance to communities and facilitating planning processes that lack planning capacity. Provides content for continuing education of planners, municipal and county officials, and other practitioners.

  • RESEARCH: Translates research that supports TTC and IFSC efforts by partnering with both academia and planning practitioners. Identifies pertinent peer-reviewed literature that supports the efforts of Texas A&M University as well as meets the needs of communities who lack planning capacity to adequately address impacts to economies, environments, and people. Conducts resiliency assessments of communities to assist with the identification of planning needs.

  • DESIGN: Develops marketing materials, including publications, guidebooks, training materials, websites, banners, brochures, and social media content. Conducts site visits to communities. Represents TTC to develop and maintain relationships with community partners.

  • CONTRACTS: Drafts contractual agreements to formalize community partnerships. Assists the Director in preparations of budgets and account management.

  • ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS: Develops reports, analyses, and evaluations as required to carry out the research and outreach duties. Coordinates with College of Architecture staff and communications team to assess impact and report on engaged scholarship and service-learning opportunities undertaken by the College. Handles special projects as assigned by the Director.

  • OTHER DUTIES: Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Education required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, urban planning, or related field.

Minimum Experience required:

  • Four (4) years of experience in project or programs related to community planning, communication and organization.

ALTERNATE REQUIREMENT:

  • Master’s degree in planning, urban planning or related field, plus 1 year of experience in project or programs related to community planning, communication and organization.
