The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Capella University seeks an innovative, collaborative academic leader to serve as assistant program director of undergraduate and applied graduate psychology.
This role will support the program director in providing leadership for the BS in Psychology, MS in Psychology, and PhD in Psychology programs. Within these programs are specializations in general psychology, educational psychology, developmental psychology, industrial/organizational psychology, and sport psychology.

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Assistant Program Director (APD) in Undergraduate & Applied Graduate Psychology is a key leadership position within the university. They promote and support a quality academic experience for learners by creating and maintaining an engaging learning environment. The APD has responsibility for program outcomes, performance of core faculty, and learner success.

The Assistant Program Director, working closely with Program Director (PD), takes an active role in oversight of curricula quality and rigor, and works to ensure curricula are professionally relevant, current, efficient, effective, and cohesive. This position contributes to a range of activities related to excellence in curriculum design/delivery and assessment effectiveness, learner success, satisfaction and engagement. They work closely with PDs, core faculty, assistant/associate deans, and faculty directors, as well as relevant university departments, to manage systems and processes related to program governance, external alignments, curriculum delivery, and coordinate with the relevant faculty directors to remain aware of issues related to faculty. The APD acts as a liaison to other departments including course development, the Center for Faculty Excellence, accreditation and institutional effectiveness, the Office of Academic & Community Standards, site-based learning, and others as required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee curriculum development according to external standards and in alignment with university design principles; supervision of SME course development and leadership.
  • Utilize analytics and evidence-based practices to execute actions that drive continuous quality improvement application in learner success, teaching, engagement, academic quality, and curricula development.
  • Coordinate, analyze and address trends related to learner academic honesty working closely with learner affairs.
  • Advise the PD to maintain alignment between academic offerings and professional trends and standards, while seeking professional validation wherever possible.
  • Advise faculty leaders regarding co-curricular and Psi Chi events for learners.
  • Ensure alignment to HLC best practices in faculty oversight of curriculum. 
  • Serve as liaison with multiple internal cross functional partners.
  • Build community among learners and faculty; address learner issues as they arise.
  • Teach or mentor as assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • An earned doctoral degree in psychology, preferably in a discipline represented in the program area (i.e., general psychology, educational psychology, developmental psychology, I/O psychology, or sport psychology).
  • Ability to travel as required (up to 10%) for residencies, commencement, external representation, or other activities several times per year for up to a week at a time.

Experience:

  • A minimum of three years of experience teaching in an undergraduate and/or graduate psychology program, preferably in an online delivery format.
  • A minimum of three years of professional experience in a discipline related to psychology.
  • Evidence of successful teaching in an online environment.
  • Evidence of supporting learner success through data-driven, collaborative decision-making.
  • Familiarity with professional preparation standards for undergraduate and graduate psychology.
  • Prior experience providing program leadership within a psychology program, particularly oversight of curriculum and assessment of learning outcomes, preferred.
  • Prior experience leading and supervising remote faculty preferred.
