Primary Purpose of Department | To achieve its vision, the Department of Biological Sciences has set as its mission several inter-related goals: • To advance the frontiers of knowledge through innovation and research in the biological sciences; • To facilitate development of scientists in the guidance of our bachelors, masters and doctoral Biology students, and in the training of post-doctoral fellows. • To increase scientific literacy, foster an appreciation of scientific inquiry, and develop well-informed citizens by providing a general education in Biology to the student population; • To participate in the University-wide academic community through interdisciplinary collaborations, programs and curricula; • To contribute to local, national, and international scientific communities through collaborations and service activities that promote education and dissemination of information; • To contribute to the community by collaborating with public, nonprofit, private, and industry partners in the Charlotte metropolitan area and the State of North Carolina. Essential Duties and Responsibilities | Applicants should possess a PH.D in the biological sciences or related fields with expertise in physiology and studying molecular mechanisms of human disease using any model organism. Candidates are expected to document expertise in their specialty by a record of postdoctoral training, peer reviewed publications, and a promise for an extramurally funding research program. The successful candidates are expected to contribute to research, teaching, and mentoring in our undergraduate and graduate curricula in Animal/Human Physiology . The Department of Biological Sciences supports BS, BA, MS (thesis & non-thesis) and PhD programs with a multicultural body of faculty and students, and prides itself with hand-on-training of its students. |
Minimum Experience/Education | UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. |
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience | Candidates are expected to have peer reviewed publications, and expected to establish a new program Candidates are expected to have a record of postdoctoral training and peer-reviewed publications, and expected to establish a new research program related to physiology and studying molecular mechanisms of human disease using any model organism . Consideration will be given to applicants with research interests complementing the Department of Biological Sciences research foci, including Proteostasis, Genome Integrity and Cancer Biology, Immunology/Microbiology/Virology. Previous teaching and mentoring experience is desirable. |
