Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park, invites qualified candidates to apply for tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant professor level, with a target start date of August 2024 or later.
Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in Computational Science and Engineering. All application areas are of interest, with particular attention to areas including industrial/healthcare AI, smart design/manufacturing, product and process risk and reliability, energy conversion and storage, materials innovation, and environmental and infrastructure sustainability.

The A. James Clark’s Department of Mechanical Engineering is ranked 14th in the 2024 Best Undergraduate Mechanical Engineering Programs by the US News and World Report Rankings, and consistently ranked in the top 20 in the Best Graduate Mechanical Engineering Programs in the US. The department offers a collegial, supportive environment in which faculty can thrive.
The department is home to multi-disciplinary research centers such as the Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering (CALCE), Center for Engineering Concepts Development (CECD), Center for Environmental Energy Engineering (CEEE), and Center for Risk and Reliability (CRR). Department faculty are also active in The Maryland Robotics Center (MRC) and Maryland NanoCenter. New centers and institutes that have been established include the Maryland Energy Innovation Institute (MEII), the Maryland Transportation Institute (MTI), the Robert E. Fischell Institute for Biomedical Devices (REFBDI), and the Quantum Technology Center (QTC).
