The Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (MPRC) at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine seeks to recruit an Assistant Professor, Non-Tenure Track, for a full-time position. 

 

The Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (MPRC), an Organized Research Center of the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), is internationally renowned. The MPRC is dedicated to providing treatment to patients with schizophrenia and related disorders, educating professionals and consumers about schizophrenia, and conducting basic and translational research into the manifestations, causes, and treatment of schizophrenia. The Assistant Professor will play a vital role in advancing these critical missions, fostering innovation and collaboration to enhance the MPRC's impact on mental health care.

 

Essential Functions:

·         Develop an independent area of research aligned with the broader scientific goals of the MPRC.

·         Collaborate with colleagues across the University to promote and achieve the scientific objectives of the Department of Psychiatry and School of Medicine as a             whole.

·         Engage in teaching programs within the School of Medicine.

·         Provide clinical care in one or more of the Department of Psychiatry clinical outpatient units. 

·         Contribute to scientific publications and presentations at scientific meetings.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education: A doctorate degree in Medicine or equivalent; Board Certified in Psychiatry. Licensing required. 

Experience: Demonstrated experience in academic research and scholarly activities; proven track record of collaboration with interdisciplinary teams; substantial experience in conducting independent research projects; and clinical experience in psychiatric outpatient settings are required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·         Knowledge of academic research methodologies and practices

·         Understanding of psychiatric and mental health principles and practices

·         Familiarity with teaching and in medical education

·         Proficiency in clinical assessment and treatment techniques in psychiatry

·         Knowledge of scientific publishing standards and presentation methods

·         Ability to apply critical thinking skills to anticipate and find the source of challenges and propose and advocate for effective solutions. Committed to creative                 problem-solving.

·         Excellent interpersonal skills, including a positive and professional orientation towards faculty, staff, university officials, partner organizations, and other                        stakeholders.
