The Department of Biomedical Engineering (http://bme.osu.edu ) at The Ohio State University invite applications for a regular tenure-track appointment in the area of non-viral gene or drug delivery for difficult-to-treat bacterial infections (i.e., biofilm, intracellular) using approaches that leverage meta- and multi-omics, and rational design of extracellular vesicles (EVs). 

Position Overview

The Department of Biomedical Engineering is seeking applications from exceptional candidates for a tenure-track position in biomedical nanotechnology for therapeutic delivery for difficult-to-treat biofilm infections, anticipated to be appointed at the Assistant Professor level.  This application will complement and add to our departmental expertise in micro- and nanotechnology for biomedical applications with an independent and supported research program and contribute to our world-class educational program. In particular, the successful candidate will lead a research program with a focus in meta- and multi-omics-based analyses and rationally designed engineered extracellular vesicles for difficult-to-treat bacterial infections (biofilm or intracellular) or for delivering treatment across biological barriers.

    Performance Objectives

    • Contribute research activities of the department, and develop and maintain a nationally and internationally recognized and externally funded research program in rationally designed extracellular vesicles for bacterial infections or for delivery of treatment across biological barriers.
    • Teach and mentor students at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and to supervise student research.
    • Participate in service to the department, college, university and the international research community

    Education and Experience Requirements

    Required :

    • Doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in Biomedical Engineering or related field
    • High-quality and high-impact research that is evident by a strong publication record and grant writing experience
    • High-quality education and mentoring experience that is evident from student mentoring and achievements of mentored students, teaching feedback, and presentation skills
    • A record of advising, mentoring, motivating, and impacting students from all backgrounds, including students from underrepresented groups
    • Competitive peer-reviewed research funding (e.g., postdoctoral fellowships).
    • Potential or demonstrated ability to attract and mentor graduate students.
    • A commitment to engage in research, teaching, and/or outreach and engagement that reflect Ohio State’s Shared Values

    • Demonstrated innovative thinking, openness to sharing ideas and collaboration with colleagues

    The Department of Biomedical Engineering at OSU was founded in 2006 following a 35 year history as a research center, and we currently have 31 departmental faculty and over 60 affiliated graduate faculty. Our tradition of excellence in research and education includes a continuously ABET accredited undergraduate program and world class research facilities across the university. The Department is housed within the highly ranked College of Engineering and has very close ties with our many highly ranked health sciences colleges including the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, and Optometry – all on the same campus. In addition, the combined technical, core, and clinical research facilities of the NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Dorothy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute, the NSF-supported Mathematical Biosciences Institute, the Ohio Supercomputer Center, and an NIH-sponsored Center for Clinical and Translational Science provide unique and comprehensive resources for biomedical engineering research and education at Ohio State.
