Position Description:

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) in the J. B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville (UofL) invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions beginning Fall 2024. For one position, we seek candidates in the field of cybersecurity. For the other position, all areas of Computer Science will be considered.

Applicants must have received a doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field by the start date of the position. They also must have demonstrated a strong potential for excellence and productivity in research commensurate with the expectations of an R1 university along with a commitment to high-quality teaching. Successful candidates will be expected to teach core undergraduate CSE courses such as introduction to programming, data structures, algorithms, embedded systems, and operating systems, in addition to graduate level courses in their research areas; develop a visionary, externally funded research program; mentor diverse students; participate in all aspects of the department's mission; and serve the profession.

Department Information

The CSE Department has been a degree granting department since 1971, when it was known as the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. CSE currently has 19 faculty including 17 tenured or tenure-track faculty with wide-ranging research interests and strong research groups in aerial robotics, computer architecture, bioinformatics, computer systems, cybersecurity, cyber-physical systems, data mining, databases, innovative and emerging technologies, knowledge discovery and web mining, mobile information networks and distributed systems, multimedia machine learning, real-time and embedded systems, and visualization and intensive graphics.

Faculty research (with 2021 expenditures exceeding $2 million) has been supported by a variety of federal grants and industrial contracts (NSF, NIH, NASA, NSA, DoD, DoE, Kindred Healthcare), including multiple prestigious young investigator awards (four NSF CAREER and one NSF CRII). The department has extensive interdisciplinary collaborations across several units at UofL, including Arts and Sciences, Social Work, Law, Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health, as well as with the other seven departments within the Speed School of Engineering and state of the art centers and institutes.

The department offers ABET-accredited BS and MENG degrees in CSE, a BA degree in Computer Science, an MS degree in Computer Science, and a PhD degree in Computer Science and Engineering, as well as graduate certificates in Data Science and Cybersecurity. The enrollment for the fall of 2021 includes 473 undergraduates, 177 master's students (33 MENG and 144 MS), 46 PhD students.
