Position Summary
Gannon University is committed to excellence in student-centered learning emphasizing student-learning outcomes. This is a nine-month, tenure-track (or teaching-track) faculty position in Computer Science to begin August 2024. The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced undergraduate as well as graduate program courses.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The functions below are detailed in the faculty handbook in Volume IV of the Institutional Policy Manual.
  • Teach 24 credit hours (27 for teaching-track) in the academic year or as otherwise specified by the faculty member’s appointment notice; student course evaluations are to be completed in each course. Faculty are expected to employ sound pedagogical practices and to use technology as appropriate, including the University’s learning management system. Faculty shall assist with course revisions and curriculum development as needed.
  • Achieve appropriate student-learning outcomes in all courses taught.
  • Engage in scholarly pursuits pertinent to their academic discipline. Scholarship, as defined by the Boyer model, includes: The Scholarship of Discovery; The Scholarship of Integration: The Scholarship of Application; and The Scholarship of Teaching (not required for teaching-track).
  • Participate in service to the University, the community and to their profession. Attend convocations, commencement exercises and community meetings.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Assist, advise and mentor students enrolled in the University.
  • Fulfill the essential duties and responsibilities of a faculty member as described in Volume IV of the Gannon University Institutional Policy Manual which contains the approved policies and procedures of the University concerning the terms and conditions of faculty employment at the University.
  • Required Qualifications
    Education: A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or closely related computing field is required for tenure track applicants; A M.S. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related computing filed is required for teaching track. Previous teaching experience in higher education or professional experience in closely related computing field is preferred.
    Experience: Experience is preferred in two or more of the following topic areas: comparative languages, mobile application development, distributed systems programming, web programming, software maintenance and deployment, operating systems, algorithms, cloud computing, cloud security, server security, and/or database systems, as well as the ability to teach in the core computing curriculum. Competency in teaching project-based learning course in various topics and ability to adapt to changing course load is a plus.
