About This Role:
The Department of Earth and Space Sciences at Lamar University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Structural Geology beginning Fall 2024. Candidates for Assistant Professor should have a PhD or anticipated PhD completion in Geology or other closely related geoscience program specializing in structural geology by August 2024. The search is open with regard to research specialty, although the Department of Earth and Space Sciences is especially interested in scholars whose research and teaching interests include Tectonics, Engineering Geology, Geochemistry, Geodesy, or Geochronology. Most of all, the department seeks scholars who will further its goals of producing high quality research and providing innovative undergraduate education. The successful candidate will teach both lecture and labs and conduct research in Structural Geology, Geochemistry, or Geomorphology, and participate in field work by teaching or aiding in teaching Summer Field Camp, Field Geology of Texas, or a Field Methods course. As the largest and most inclusive academic unit within Lamar University, the College of Arts and Sciences contributes significantly to the cultural and academic characteristics that distinguishes Lamar University as a member of the Texas State University System. Our programs perform at the highest levels with constant enthusiasm for excellence. The College of Arts and Sciences include some 220 faculty, 100 staff members and houses approximately 5,000 majors. The College includes twelve academic departments, many of which house multiple programs and disciplines in the natural and social sciences and humanities.   • maintain an active research agenda that includes publication of research papers in peer reviewed journals and/or submission of research grants and maintain an active service agenda.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)
  • Applicants must have an earned PhD in. Education in other areas such as Tectonics, Engineering Geology, Geochemistry, Geodesy, or Geochronology is a plus, but not required for the position.
  • Applicant must have at least 1 year of structural geology related research experience during their doctoral program or afterwards. Field and teaching experience is desirable, though not required.
