Job Position Description
The Department of Educational Studies (http://www.edst.purdue.edu ) within the College of Education at Purdue University invites applications for a 9-month position, Assistant Professor of Special Education in academic and/or behavioral interventions supporting students with disabilities to begin August 2024. The Special Education Program faculty are dedicated to preparing future educators, researchers, and leaders in the fields of special education and applied behavior analysis using both evidence-based and innovative practices to meet the needs of each and every learner. The Special Education program offers a Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a concentration in Special Education, a Master of Science with a concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis (residential and online), and a Bachelor of Arts degree with licensure options in K-6 special education mild and intense interventions, 5-12 special education mild and intense interventions, or K-6 dual elementary education and special education.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to:
- maintain a strong line of scholarship with an emphasis in academic and/or behavioral interventions supporting students with disabilities.
- build a competitive, externally fundable/funded research program.
- teach a variety of courses in our undergraduate and graduate programs (2/2 load) in areas such as instructional methods across K-12, research methodology, intensive interventions, and doctoral seminars.
- guide doctoral students in their area of expertise.
- contribute to and engage in service to the program, department, college, and profession.
Qualifications
Applicants for the position must hold a Ph.D. in special education or a closely related field (e.g., Educational Psychology, Curriculum and Instruction) by the position’s start date. Evidence of relevant research expertise and experience is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Hold a Ph.D. in special education or a closely related field (e.g., Educational Studies, Educational Psychology, Curriculum and Instruction) by the position’s start date.
- A strong record of research productivity as indicated by peer-reviewed publications in high quality special education journals and participation in funded research projects.
- Evidence of potential to secure external funding.
- Strong record of scholarship related to academic and behavioral interventions indicated by peer-reviewed publications and national/international presentations.
- Evidence of teaching excellence within teacher preparation and/or doctoral preparation programs.
- Ability to teach courses in the undergraduate and graduate special education programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of experience working with individuals with disabilities in 5-12 school settings
- A record of instructional innovation and leadership
- A record of engagement and/or leadership in professional organizations
- Program development and/or program evaluation experience
- Strong methodological experience in one or more areas of inquiry (e.g., single-case experimental research, randomized control trials, systematic literature review)
- Peer-reviewed publications and national/international presentations addressing the needs of individuals with disabilities in 5-12 school settings
Salary
Salary and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience.
