DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL STUDIES 
The University of Miami School of Education and Human Development, Department of Educational and Psychological Studies, is actively seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in psychometrics and quantitative methods within behavioral and social sciences and education. This position represents a joint appointment within the UM SEHD’s Research, Measurement, and Evaluation (RME) graduate program and the University of Miami Institute for Data Science and Computing (IDSC).

The successful candidate will be tasked with integrating data science into various SEHD programs, particularly RME undergraduate and graduate programs, and conducting cutting-edge research in key areas of data science and its practical applications. This approach aligns with the University's overarching objective of becoming a global leader in mission-oriented research. While tenure will be granted through the SEHD RME program, IDSC will play a vital role in all merit evaluations, including promotion and tenure, by serving on the ad-hoc evaluation committee.

The UM IDSC is committed to research endeavors and actively seeks external funding opportunities. The newly appointed faculty member, who will be affiliated with IDSC, will have the chance to take on leadership roles within various IDSC research programs. These roles not only shape the course of IDSC and its collaborative projects but also provide continuous access to software engineering support and allocations on the high-performance computational platforms at IDSC. This ensures a dynamic and pioneering research environment for ongoing innovation and progress.

This position will be filled based on finding the best available candidate with the greatest potential for continuing long-term research, scholarship in the field of measurement and educational statistics.

The area of expertise is open; however, we are especially interested in recruiting individuals whose scholarly interests and work fit within one or more of the following areas:

(a) Educational measurement, such as Item Response Theory, Computer Adaptive Testing, and Cognitive Diagnostic Modeling.

(b) Large-scale data analytics, such as Social Network Analysis, Deep Learning, and Educational Data Mining.

(c) Advanced statistical methods, such as Categorical data analysis, Hierarchical Linear Modeling, Longitudinal Data Analysis, and Bayesian analysis.

The applicant should demonstrate a track record of securing external research funding, supporting the development of a cutting-edge research methodologies and nurturing doctoral students who will enter the academy as an expert in the fields of measurement and educational statistics. Apart from exceptional scholarly achievements, the ideal candidate must be dedicated to exemplary teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, possessing the ability to proficiently convey intricate statistical and measurement concepts. Effective communication and presentation skills are essential in this regard.

The requirements for this position include:

Applicants are required to have earned or anticipate receiving a Ph.D. degree in Educational Measurement and/or Statistics or a closely related field no later than May 2024. Applicants must demonstrate a strong track record in all aspects of academia, including teaching, research, and service, with a specific emphasis on securing external funding. This includes (a) conducting scholarly research and publishing, (b) teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including online instruction, (c) providing guidance and mentorship to doctoral, master's, and undergraduate students, (d) securing extramural funding, and (e) participating in professional service activities relevant to the academic rank they are being considered for, in accordance with the University of Miami's policies for hiring tenure-track faculty.

The position’s duties include the implementation of a substantive long-term chain of inquiry in educational statistics and measurement; teaching undergraduate and graduate students; mentoring of doctoral students including chairing and serving on doctoral committees; service to department, school, university and external professional organizations; and extramural funding to support research. Other duties and responsibilities are as outlined in the Faculty Manual.
