Nature of Work

The Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) has an opening for a full-time position at the rank of Research Assistant Professor - Biostatistician in the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics and the Center for Innovative Design and Analysis (CIDA).

The successful candidate will be a faculty member in the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics (BIOS), one of five departments in the Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH). Faculty and students in the Department apply analytic methods, statistical reasoning and information management techniques to health data in medical and public health fields.

CIDA is the campus wide analytics center and provides consulting and in-depth collaboration for researchers on the Anschutz Medical Campus and the surrounding community. The person in this position will join a growing group of master’s and doctoral trained faculty in CIDA and over three-dozen faculty and research personnel in the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics

The Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) is a collaborative endeavor involving the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Colorado State University (CSU), and the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). ColoradoSPH is the first and only accredited school of public health in the Rocky Mountain Region, attracting top tier faculty and students from across the country, and providing vital contributions towards ensuring our region’s health and wellbeing. Supervision Received

The Research Assistant Professor position will be supervised by the Department Chair of Biostatistics and informatics with input from the director of CIDA.

Supervision Exercised

This position can have supervisory responsibilities with early-career research instructors, PRAs, or graduate research assistants seeking PhD degrees.

Examples of Work Performed

The Research Assistant Professor – Biostatistician will work independently with investigators spanning the spectrum of biomedical and public health research on an academic health sciences campus. This individual will provide the biostatistical expertise in study design, study oversight, data management, data analysis and manuscript preparation to assist all levels of biomedical investigators and clinicians on new research activities across a wide range of disciplines. The Research Assistant Professor will be expected to initiate independent innovative methodological research when serving as lead for a complex research study or through their own internal or external funding. With respect to the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics, the faculty member will have limited service obligations and may engage in teaching activities as negotiated with the Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics and the Director of CIDA. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of advanced statistical principles relevant in medical research

  • Strong programming skills in a common statistical software package (such as SAS, R, S-Plus, and/or SPSS)

  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems and apply quantitative analytical approaches.

  • Ability to investigate the properties of statistical methodology through simulation or other means.

  • Ability to develop new statistical methodology and disseminate these innovations through publication and/or software development.

  • Good organizational skills across individual projects, managing own workload

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Positive attitude and the ability to work with biomedical investigators and colleagues in CIDA and the Department of Biostatistics and Informatics

  • Ability to contribute to the growth and development of CIDA and the Department

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Strong knowledge of statistical computing

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at $110,000-$130,000.


The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, DrPH) in statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, computer science, applied mathematics or related fields.

  • 3+ years consulting or collaborative (bio)statistics experience post terminal degree.

  • Evidence of independent research through publications as first or senior author.

  • Evidence of an ability to secure extramural funding for biomedical research (grants).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of research experience

  • Expertise in `big data’ analysis with primary areas of interest including wearable devices (sensors), electronic health records, administrative data, or ‘omics.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead the biostatistics elements of clinical or translational research projects.
