Job Summary
The Department of Environmental & Molecular Toxicology invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position.
The integrated mission of the Department of Environmental & Molecular Toxicology (EMT) is to educate students in the toxicological sciences, to conduct research on the effects of chemicals on humans and the environment and to engage the public through extension and outreach.

This position supports the state-of-the-art and internationally competitive research, outreach and education missions of the university and department related to the field of toxicology, including, but not limited to, environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology, mechanistic toxicology, computational toxicology, environmental health sciences or closely related areas.
The EMT program offers Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees and an undergraduate minor in Toxicology with interdisciplinary training on environmental hazards and their interactions with biological systems in order to protect human health and the environment.
This position offers extensive opportunities and expectations for collaborative research both within the department and with Centers of research excellence at OSU, including the Environmental Health Science Center, the Superfund Research Program, the Center for Quantitative Life Sciences, the Linus Pauling Institute, the Mass Spectrometry Center, and NMR Center faculty as well as other academic units across the campus.
This position is expected to establish an independent, extramurally funded research program in toxicology, and direct and support graduate student research. Additionally, the position will develop innovative contemporary educational toxicology courses to support our expanding Toxicology M.S., Ph.D. and undergraduate minor programs.
Professorial faculty with an Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) appointment of 0.20 full-time equivalent (FTE) or greater are required to be an Investigator for at least one NIFA Hatch collaborative or Hatch multistate project.

Key Responsibilities
The incumbent’s primary responsibilities are to 1] develop and maintain an externally funded research program, 2] contribute to the teaching mission and advise students, and 3] to participate in service. The position is funded by the College of Agricultural Sciences and a USDA/NIFA Multistate Hatch project.
70% Research and Scholarly Activity
  • Develop and maintain an externally funded, independent research program
  • Publish the results of original research in peer-reviewed journals and/or technical reports
  • Present current research findings at regional, national, and international conferences
  • Supervise FRAs, postdoctoral scholars, graduate assistants, and/or undergraduate student employees.
  • Serve as an investigator on a USDA-NIFA Hatch collaborative or Hatch multistate project


20% Teaching/Advising
  • Teach approximately one class a year in general toxicology or the application of toxicological sciences
  • Direct graduate students in their advanced degree programs in the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology

10% Service
  • Participate on graduate committees of students within the department and allied programs
  • Participate in committees and faculty governance in the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology
  • Participate in committees or other service at the college or university level
  • Participate in service to the profession, for example, reviewing journal articles and grant proposals, serve on committees that address EMT’s mission areas and serve on professional society committees and panels.
What You Will Need
Ph.D., M.D., M.D.-Ph.D., DVM, or an equivalent terminal degree in toxicology, environmental chemistry, molecular/cellular biology, environmental health or related field.
Demonstrated research experience in toxicology, environmental chemistry, molecular/cellular biology, or closely related field.
Demonstrated potential to maintain an externally funded research program.
A strong track record of scholarly activity, as demonstrated through publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Evidence of commitment to student success.
Potential for teaching effectively at the graduate level.
Evidence of working collaboratively and as part of interdisciplinary teams.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
