Position Overview

Position Summary:

This tenure track, assistant-professor position in Eastern New Mexico University’s Department of Theatre and Digital Filmmaking will teach a variety of undergraduate courses in theatre, which will include but is not limited to acting, theatre history, intro to theatre, directing, global theatre, and dramatic analysis. This is a full-time, tenure-track position, with a 4-4 teaching load (with release time for directing plays). In addition to directing student productions, scholarly/creative production is required. The Department offers two undergraduate degrees in theatre: Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Digital Filmmaking. This is a residential appointment with campus presence required.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach a 4/4 load
  • Direct plays for the theatre season (September through early May) 
  • Scholarly activity expected, including play-directing
  • Advise student academic progress as needed.
  • Serve as a curricular expert in Theatre
  • Serve on department, college, and university committees
  • Commitment to recruiting and retention
  • Commitment to advancing the goals and mission of the department
 
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • An earned MFA or PhD in Theatre or a terminal degree in a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, advise, and mentor students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • Appropriate record of artistic and/or scholarly activity
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Required:
  • Ability to foster excellence in all aspects of Theatre
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse learning and working environment.
  • Commitment to preparing students for careers, including creating and maintaining relationships with industry professionals, and fostering student internships and other college-to-profession experiences.
Desired:
  • Ability to teach Acting for the Camera
  • Ability to teach Theatre Education courses


Working Conditions

 
Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed during normal work hours but may require some evening or weekend hours. Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
