General Description / Primary Purpose
The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum invites applications for a tenure-earning Assistant Professor for TESOL position at the University of North Florida to begin on August 2, 2024. We are seeking an innovative candidate with a vision and proven record of advocating for the diverse needs of students who can build upon and expand our TESOL program.
The successful candidate will be expected to advance the program’s goals by maintaining their research agenda and contributing to graduate and undergraduate teaching and mentoring.
Candidates are expected to have a record of scholarly productivity commensurate with experience, including a record of publications and/or potential for publication in top and key professional peer-reviewed journals and the potential for or a record of securing externally funded grants.
A strong candidate will have a demonstrated a record of excellence in teaching and student success and in developing expertise in addressing critical needs in TESOL.
This is a 9-month, tenure-track position with a typical teaching load of two to three courses per semester.

Essential Duties


Job Function
Teaching, Research, Service:
The successful candidate will be required to teach two to three TESOL courses per semester. In addition, the candidate will engage in other instructional duties within the college’s education programs. The specific instructional responsibilities will be determined in accordance with the needs of the department and college.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a productive research agenda via publications in high impact journals and a potential for a record of securing externally funded grants. Involvement in relevant professional service at the local, regional, or national level will be expected.

Required Qualifications:
  • An earned doctorate in ESOL/TESOL Education (or a closely related field) by the time of appointment.
  • At least three (3) years of teaching experience with PK-12 students in schools.
  • Evidence of publication in professional outlets, commensurate with experience.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence and effectiveness in higher education, commensurate with experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to issues of equity for diverse learners.
Departmental Requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A record of publication in high-impact journals commensurate with experience.
  • Success in receiving external funding commensurate with experience.
  • Experiences in partnering with local schools and school districts.
  • Evidence of a commitment to student success at the college level, including success with a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrated experience in online teaching.
