The Department of English and Modern Languages at Jackson State University invites applicants for an Assistant Professor of Spanish and Sociolinguistics (Tenure Track) position. The candidate will maintain a strong research agenda with an open field of concentration in Sociolinguistics or Second Language Acquisition. Preferably, the candidate will have interests in curriculum design and teaching Spanish language and sociolinguistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.


The Department of English, Modern Foreign Languages and Speech Communications at Jackson State University is a unit of the School of Communications in the College of Liberal Arts. The department is a diverse and multicultural community committed to enhancing knowledge of cultural, linguistic and social awareness through scholarship, research, undergraduate service-learning, and graduate training. We currently offer two-degree programs and two minors in Spanish: Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Modern Foreign Languages and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with a concentration in Translation Studies in Spanish; a minor in Spanish and a minor in Translation Studies in Spanish.
