The University of Maine seeks to fill at least two (2) three-year, fixed length, assistant professor positions in mathematics. These academic-year positions are anticipated to begin September 3, 2024 and are not renewable.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Undergraduate teaching in mathematics and/or statistics. The regular teaching assignment is two courses per semester; in one semester during the second or third year this will be reduced to one course. The courses to be taught will usually be from the calculus sequence or other service material, however opportunity will be given to teach upper-level material at least once.
- Maintaining an active research program.
- Participating collegially in the life of the department.

Required:
- A Ph.D. in a relevant area is required by date of hire.
- Demonstrated effective college-level teaching.
- Evidence of strong potential for research.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
Preferred:
- Candidates whose research is in an area in which the department is presently active may be preferred, to promote collaboration and such mentoring as may be appropriate.
