Job Description

The Department of Psychology and Communication at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks a full-time Assistant Professor of Digital Media in Communication to begin Fall of 2024. TAMIU is a growing university of over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant bilingual, and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. For more information, visit www.tamiu.edu. This is a tenure- track position. Primary duties will include a reduced load (2-2 for the first two years) which is provided to allow the new hire to focus on publishing research in digital media communication or closely related areas]. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Required Qualifications :

The successful candidate must hold a terminal degree, M.F.A. or PhD in communication design, mass communication or relevant discipline. Degree at the time of application or official notification of completion of the terminal degree are required by August 1, 2024. ABDs will also be considered but must have earned a doctorate before appointment in August. We strongly encourage candidates who have: knowledge in industry standard software and digital applications such as video editing, social media, content creation and interpretation, audio editing, and advanced proficiency with core Adobe Creative Cloud programs, Demonstrated potential to teach undergraduate students in at least one of the following digital communication specialty areas: strategic advertising, public relations, storytelling, interaction/experience design UI/UX, web, information/visualization communication design, multimedia, video, audio, social media, data, artificial intelligence, immersive reporting, and/or other emerging content production tools and platforms, Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at the college/university level, and who have a record of and/or demonstrated potential for successful research, scholarly and/or creative activities.

We additionally, prefer candidates who have one-year of exceptional professional experience in digital media, achievement in scholarly research and publication, one-year of prior college-level teaching experience, especially in digital media, willingness and interest in leading creative collaborative research and/or grant teams that include but not are limited to fellow faculty and students in the Department of Communication.

Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.
