Job Summary
The Department of Literature & Language at East Tennessee State University seeks applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Creative Nonfiction on a continuing 9-month appointment starting August 15, 2024.
The position involves a 3/3 teaching load that may include any of the following based on department needs: introductory, advanced, and graduate-level creative writing workshops; literature genre and survey courses; special topics classes; and honors in literature courses. Faculty must be dedicated to working in a department that is sensitive to the needs of first-generation students.
The position is contingent upon sufficient funding.
The successful candidate will serve on departmental committees and contribute to the development of an expanding undergraduate creative writing curriculum, including the Creative Writing Minor. The successful candidate may also assist in developing graduate-level courses and other programming in creative writing, including working with the Bert C. Bach Written Word Initiative to create events for the campus literary arts community.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required Qualifications
  • A terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in Creative Writing at the time of application.
  • A strong record of creative nonfiction published in books or periodicals of literary merit.
  • A minimum of one-year teaching experience at the college level.
  • Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional publication and teaching experience in a secondary genre (fiction, poetry, plays, and/or digital media).
  • Experience with audio storytelling/podcasting.
  • Experience teaching literature classes at the post-secondary level.
  • Experience with curricula of underrepresented subject areas of literature, including (but not limited to) Black American, Latino/a, Appalachian, and LGBTQ.
  • Experience with or interest in the medical humanities.
Salary 56,000.00
