Nature of Work:

Due to significant program expansion the Department of Counseling and Human Services in the College of Education at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs invites applicants to apply for two Assistant Professor Tenure Track positions in the CACREP-accredited Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling program. The workload for these positions is teaching 5 courses per academic year (2/3 teaching load). Opportunities also available for teaching undergraduate courses in Human Services, graduate courses in Counseling and Leadership, and summer teaching; maintaining an advising caseload of graduate and undergraduate students; supervising practicum and internship students; engaging in research and scholarship; and providing service to support the department, college, and university. The Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling programs are fully in-person. The successful candidates will possess, and be able to demonstrate, a variety of pedagogical approaches that enhance student learning, including the use of technology inside and outside of the classroom.

Preference for the first Assistant Professor position will be given to applicants with experience working with school counseling, at-risk children and adolescents, substance use and recovery counseling, and/or interest in facilitating the Campus Connections Therapeutic Youth Mentoring Program. In addition, preference is given to applicants who can translate and/or provide bilingual therapeutic support for our Spanish speaking families in the Campus Connections Therapeutic Youth Mentoring Program. Preference for the second Assistant Professor position will be given to the applicants with experience working with military populations, substance use and recovery counseling, evidence-based counseling approaches, and/or quantitative research methods. In addition, preference is given to applicants who can demonstrate a research agenda with quantitative methods of inquiry. Work Location: This position is intended to be in person, on campus. Hybrid opportunities available as coordinated with the department chair.

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

What We Offer:

Salary Range: Generally starting at $60,000 - $70,000 per academic year.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Tentative Search Timeline:

  • Priority will be given to applications submitted by 11:59 PM on January 21, 2024.  However, this posting will remain open until filled.
  • The potential dates for initial interviews with the search committee will be the week of January 28, 2024.
  • The potential dates for in-person, on campus, interviews with the supervisor and appointing authority will be mid-February to early March 2024.
  • The potential employee start date is August 19, 2024.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  •   Earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision or in Counseling from a CACREP-accredited program. Applicants who are ABD will be considered if the degree is conferred by August 18, 2024.

  OR

  • Doctorate in a closely related field (e.g., counseling, counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy) and to have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for at least a full academic year before July 1, 2013.
