Job Summary:

West Texas A&M University is a student-centered, learning community dedicated to educating tomorrow’s leaders through innovative academic and co-curricular undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department of Education at West Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenure-track teaching position as an Assistant Professor of Counseling. All applicants must explain how they will actively promote and participate in our student-centered mission, values, and philosophy. The Department of Education is developing innovative teaching strategies in the areas of travel abroad and cross-discipline collaboration to promote knowledge acquisition in English Language Learning education and multiculturalism. All applicants must demonstrate a willingness to learn, support, and promote these initiatives.

Work Performed: 

Position responsibilities include teaching counseling courses and other assigned graduate and undergraduate courses in both face-to-face and web-based delivery systems, providing leadership for the school counseling program, developing school counseling curriculum, supervising school counseling practicum students, advising and recruiting students, working cooperatively with area public schools, maintaining an active research and publication agenda, participating in school and university committees and professional organizations.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP-accredited counselor education program.
  • Eligible for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas.
  • Certified or eligible for school counseling certification.
  • A record or evidence of potential for research and scholarly activity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • State certification in teaching special education.
  • 18 hours or more of graduate training/school in a special education or related field.
  • Leadership abilities with the vision to develop and enhance the program.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence on the graduate level.
  • Identity with counseling organizations through membership, certifications, and/or licensures. Professional service and advocacy in counseling.
  • Knowledge and experience in meeting accreditation standards, especially CACREP.
