Job Description:

The Gadomski School of Engineering at Christian Brothers University seeks a dynamic individual for the position of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of Civil Engineering, with an expected start date of January 2025.  The ideal candidate will have a background in Structural Engineering.  This position will remain open until filled. Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply by no later than June, 2024.

The faculty member will be expected to teach courses in Structural Engineering and may be asked to teach other select support courses.

Typical Required Courses:

  • Mechanics courses (Statics, Mechanics of Materials, Structural Analysis)
  • Structural Design courses (Steel Design and Reinforced Concrete Design)
  • Construction Materials (Aggregate Testing, Concrete and Asphalt Testing, Wood Testing)
  • Related Electives and Laboratories

Other Support Courses:

  • Introduction to Civil Engineering
  • Civil Engineering Analysis
  • Engineering Graphics
  • Engineering Economy
  • Junior/Senior Design Project
  • Licensure & Certification in Civil Engineering

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain teaching excellence in a full teaching load each semester.
  • Advise civil engineering students and seniors in their projects. 
  • Develop a research program that engages undergraduate civil engineering students.
  • Advise Civil Engineering Student Competitions.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a research program that generates external funding and leads to scholarly publications.
  • Serve on school and university committees.


Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
  • Proficiency in Structural Engineering curricula.
  • Excellence in teaching ability at the undergraduate level and ability to engage students in undergraduate research.
  • Ability to initiate and develop new programs/concentrations in civil engineering and pursue applied research and innovations to support current and future industry demands in civil engineering.
  • P.E. license or ability to obtain a P.E. license before applying for promotion or tenure.

Preferred Qualities:

  • Prior teaching experience at a primarily undergraduate institution.
  • Prior experience in externally funded applied research in Structural Engineering.
  • Proficiency with current laboratory instrumentation in Structural Engineering.
  • P.E. License.
  • A secondary background in Geotechnical Engineering or Materials Engineering.
