Summary of Job Duties:

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock, School of Physical Sciences, Chemistry Program invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Inorganic Chemistry. The Chemistry Program is dedicated to high quality education and research at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate is expected to establish and maintain a strong externally funded research program either in experimental or theoretical areas in the Inorganic field. Currently. The Chemistry Program has NMR, EPR, GC/MS, TGA/DSC, HPLC and other standard spectroscopic instrumentation. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in teaching Inorganic Chemistry and laboratory courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry (Preferably in Inorganic Chemistry). All Ph.D. requirements must be completed before employment commences.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • Candidates with postdoctoral research experience and a good track record of research activities e,g., mentoring, publications and grants will be given preference;
  • Experience in teaching Inorganic Chemistry and laboratory at the undergraduate level and graduate level is preferred.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inorganic faculty will teach undergraduate (BA, BS), and graduate level (MA, MS, Ph.D.) courses in Inorganic chemistry including special topics of Inorganic Chemistry covering lectures and laboratories.
  • Position may also teach freshman level courses in chemistry including general and fundamental chemistry as needed;
  • Develop and teach in person, hybrid or online courses, as needed;
  • Responsible for curriculum development and implementation;
  • Develop robust research activities at the undergraduate (BA, BS), and graduate level (MA, MS, Ph.D in Applied Science – Chemistry) that will be maintained through funding obtained from different external granting agencies;
  • Service activities are also expected, including participation on program-level, college, and university-wide committees, assisting with recruitment and retention, engaging with the community, and advising Chemistry majors;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Background in Inorganic Chemistry, encompassing expertise in inorganic compounds, coordination complexes, organometallic chemistry, catalysis, bioinorganic chemistry, polymers, and nanomaterials, aligning well with the current program's strengths and areas of interest;
  • Expertise in different Chemistry topics;
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment that prioritizes equity and inclusion;
  • Knowledge and use of evidence-based teaching practices, including active learning practices;
  • Knowledge and use of academic learning management systems (LMS), such as Blackboard or Canvas;
  • Skilled in utilizing various computer software programs, including Google products, MS Office, ChemDraw, and any Graphing software to enhance academic and administrative tasks;
  • Capable of developing course materials and effectively teaching in hybrid or online platforms as required;
  • Skilled in laboratory supervision, standard instrumentation and safety practices.
