Position Overview

Position Summary: 
Eastern New Mexico University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Animal Science. The agriculture program offers courses leading to a B.S. in Animal and Dairy Science with an emphasis in Production Management and Pre-veterinary Medicine. The program is student-centered, focusing on engaging undergraduate students in research opportunities. The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and the ability to establish a research program that engages students in applied and/or basic research. This is a residential appointment and campus presence is required. 


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Teach undergraduate courses in animal physiology, production, nutrition, veterinary science, and other related classes  
  • Maintain and enhance ENMU’s relationship with area high school agriculture programs, including dual credit, FFA judging contests, and recruitment
  • Establish an active research program which provides research experience and mentoring for undergraduate students
  • Seek and obtain extramural funding to support research efforts
  • Maintain appropriate service to the department, college, university and community, including service on committees, assisting with recruitment and retention efforts and student advising
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
Minimum Job Requirements: 
  • A Ph.D. in Animal Science (ABD considered), Agriculture, or a related field; ability to work well in a collegial setting
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience developing and teaching courses through multiple formats (face-to-face, online, etc.)
  • Commitment to collaboration and working as part of a team to visualize, plan, deliver, assess, and redirect programs as needed to serve stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
 


Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is sedentary in nature and sometimes requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
