Job Summary | The Department of Mechanical Engineering and Technology in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at Eastern Washington University (EWU) invites applications for a Tenure Track faculty position in Robotics and Automation to begin in September 2023. Located in Cheney, WA, 16 miles from downtown Spokane, the Department of Mechanical Engineering & Technology has 11 faculty in Mechanical Engineering (ME) and Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) and roughly 350 undergraduate students. The Spokane area is a regional manufacturing hub supporting high-tech industries throughout Washington. Eastern supports these industries through our large alumni base and the expertise of our faculty and students. Preference will be given to candidates who can support robotics, automation and advanced manufacturing through research, industry outreach, and exceptional teaching. We are seeking broadly trained candidates who will be inspirational teachers, role models, and mentors who complement the strengths of our faculty to engage in instructionally-intensive undergraduate programs. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and to the development of a strong externally funded research program involving undergraduates. Candidates must show a high degree of interest in human and cultural diversity with a demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach to teaching and scholarship that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public. Additionally, all faculty are expected to actively participate in curriculum development and assessment of student learning. Primary areas of responsibility include teaching undergraduate Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technology courses (including some taken by our BS Technology students), scholarly activity/industrial outreach, curriculum development, and professional service. All faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning in these ABET accredited programs. EASTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty, staff, students and academic program offerings and to strengthening sensitivity to diversity throughout the institution. Eastern Washington University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer, and applications from members of historically underrepresented groups are especially encouraged.
