Position Summary
Provide leadership and direction for information literacy instruction for students in classroom settings. Coordinate and provide logistical support for IL instruction sessions and teach IL instruction sessions in assigned and other subject areas. Assist in reference services and collection development in assigned subjects. Participate in collegial governance, and campus and professional activities.
Major Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and direction for information literacy instruction for students in classroom settings
  • Coordinate and provide logistical support for IL instruction sessions
  • Teach a significant number of IL instruction sessions in assigned and other subject areas
  • Develop, provide, and recommend IL training and support tools for librarians
  • Serve as a standing member of the library department’s IL Committee
  • Partner with the IL Committee in establishing and managing effective assessment of student learning relative to library IL learning outcomes
  • Maintain expertise in IL instruction and curriculum development best practices and trends

Other Responsibilities
  • Participate in reference services, including occasional weekend desk shifts.
  • Participate in collection development areas of interest or expertise.
  • Serve on Murphy Library, university, UW System, and professional committees as selected or appointed.
  • Engage in an active program of scholarship, professional and community service as outlined in the University’s Faculty Handbook and the Library’s Departmental Guidelines.

General position summary statement for UWL faculty librarian positions:
Under general supervision of the department chair, a person in this position is responsible for managing information by selecting, organizing, providing access to, and preserving physical and online information resources, as well as assisting and educating others in the effective utilization of such resources. Librarianship involves maintaining currency in the individual’s area of expertise and maintaining an active on-going program of scholarship related to the individual’s roles and responsibilities. In addition, this individual will provide service to the department, college, and university and is likely expected to provide service to the community and/or the profession. Other duties may be assigned by the chair or director.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent international degree to be completed by the time of application.
  • Post MLS experience working within a library setting, specifically involving classroom instruction

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with learning theories and their practical application 
  • Professional experience using the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education to inform IL instructional design and delivery 
  • Interest and ability in training librarian colleagues in Information Literacy instruction and pedagogy 
  • Professional experience with IL assessment and evaluation methodologies and activities 
  • Professional experience working in an academic library environment 
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively collaborate with project stakeholders, faculty/staff, colleagues, and students
