THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN KNOXVILLE, TN.

This is a new, non-tenure track position for an Asistant Professor in the Amyloidosis and Cancer Theranostics Program (ACTP) at the UTGSM.  This position will perform research activities in the fields of amyloidosis, imaging, cancer biology, drug development translational research, peptide biochemistry and translational activities related to novel peptides. This position will collaborate with all other members of the ACTP and other faculty at the University of Tennessee Medical Center to facilitate state of art research in the basic, translational and clinical biomedical sciences. This position will be expected to contribute scientific and intellectual input into the preparation and presentation of manuscripts, abstracts, and patents.  This position will be expected to apply for extramural funding to support and further the research activities of the ACTP. This position will be expected to develop independent and diverse research avenues in the fields of amyloidosis, cancer biology or peptide / immunobiochemistry as part of the overarching Amyloidosis Program. As a member of the ACTP the research activities and collaborations will be diverse and extensive and this position will participatein and contribute their expertise to numerous research projects that further the mission of the ACTP, UTGSM, UT Medical Center and University of Tennessee. This will be an external search.

This position may oversee research activities of other staff or faculty members at the UTMC. In addition, this position may oversee research activities of medical students and UTK undergraduates as well as graduate students. There will be no direct reports to this position at present.

This is a research position, with no clinical care duties and no teaching requirements (but with options to engage in teaching activities if desired).  This position will perform research activities in the fields of amyloidosis, imaging, cancer biology, drug development translational research, peptide biochemistry and translational activities related to novel peptides. This position will collaborate with all other members of the ACTP and other faculty at the University of Tennessee Medical Center to facilitate state of art research in the basic, translational, and clinical biomedical sciences.

Basic Qualifications: 

BS, PhD in biochemistry, virology, microbiology, or immunology.

Departmental Preferences:

This position should be highly skilled and experienced in research techniques related to biochemistry, immunology and protein / peptide biology.  This position should have experience in cell-based assays, protein and peptide biochemistry techniques (basic and advanced), expertise in advanced flow-cytometric methods and analysis, research animal handling and procedures, experience with thromboelastography, peptide and protein design, image analysis and interpretation, calorimetry, optical imaging, molecular biology (cloning, development of bacterial expression vectors), assay development.
