South Dakota State University Department of Animal Science is offering an exciting career opportunity as an Assistant Professor in Reproductive Physiology with an emphasis in cattle reproduction. Applicants with innovative research programs that complement or expand existing animal science research in the department will be given the highest priority. This is a 9-month, full-time, benefit eligible, tenure-track position. This position is supervised by the Department Head of Animal Science

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities of this position are 75% Research, 20% Extension and 5% Teaching. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of an independent and nationally recognized research program in the area  of Reproductive Physiology with an emphasis in cattle reproduction. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop a successful Extension program, function effectively on multidisciplinary and multi-species teams,
develop collaborative relationships with faculty in the department and across the university, establish a strong relationship with producers and allied industry members, and develop and sustain a successful extramurally funded research program which attracts outstanding graduate students. The successful candidate will also be able to teach and develop classes in their respective discipline as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D. in Animal Science, or closely related field with an emphasis in bovine reproductive physiology, or a closely related discipline. 
  • Potential to establish an independent, externally funded research program in reproductive physiology with an emphasis in cattle reproduction or closely related discipline.
  • A solid understanding of modern beef production.
  • Potential to achieve excellence in Extension education.
  • Potential to achieve excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
  • Potential to develop a nationally recognized research program in Reproductive Physiology relevant to commercial beef production.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with people of varying backgrounds.

 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post-doctoral or equivalent research experience.
  • An interest in both bovine and ovine reproductive physiology.
  • Potential to obtain federal and industry research grants.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with faculty, students, and industry to develop collaborative research and teaching programs.
  • Ability to publish research.
