General Description / Primary Purpose
The Department of Psychology at the University of North Florida invites applications for one tenure-track Assistant Professor (Position #313660). The specific area is open; candidates from any subfield of Psychology are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will strengthen existing areas of emphasis within the department and teach courses within the Psychology curriculum, including Research Methods in Psychology, Introduction to Psychology, and other undergraduate or graduate courses within their area of expertise. Individuals with experience teaching undergraduate Research Methods in Psychology are particularly encouraged to apply. The position will begin in August 2024.
The position is a full-time tenure track appointment with primary responsibilities in teaching, research, and service/outreach. The successful candidate will become an integral part of the programs within the Psychology Department, with duties to include: teaching courses in the department curriculum consistent with their background, developing a research program that involves undergraduate and graduate student researchers, and participating in professional and university outreach and service activities. The Psychology Department at UNF offers a BA and a BS in Psychology, a BS in Behavioral Neuroscience, and a MS in Psychological Science. Over 1200 undergraduate psychology and behavioral neuroscience majors and 35 graduate psychology students are enrolled at the University of North Florida. The department’s research collaborators include faculty within other academic departments, the Jacksonville Zoo, and Mayo Clinic research centers. In addition, the department features functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), BIOPAC physiological systems, virtual reality, eye-tracking equipment, thermal imaging cameras, ELISA systems for hormone assays, a driving simulator, and a campus aviary.

Job Function
Successful candidates are expected to establish and maintain a productive program of research; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology, including courses related to the candidate’s particular area of expertise (3-3 teaching load); supervise undergraduate and master’s students’ research projects; and contribute to service in the department, university, and profession. We are particularly motivated to select candidates who demonstrate the ability to work with and engage diverse students, colleagues, and research participants from diverse backgrounds. UNF faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of academic excellence in all phases of instruction, research/scholarship/creative activity, and service.

1. PhD in Psychology or related field by August 1, 2024;
2. Commitment to student, faculty, and staff excellence;
3. Potential to conduct and publish high-quality research, as indicated by publications in peer-reviewed journals and transparent research practices; and
4. Evidence of or potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic researcher and communicator who has excellent written and oral communication skills namely the ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students; the ability to establish a research program; an appreciation for diverse constituencies and effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
