Job Summary
The Department of Geography in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geography in the Political Ecology of Borders with a focus on Latin America. This is a 9-month position in the regular title series with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2024. Our goal is to build upon and strategically expand the Department’s strengths in critical human geography, including Political Geographies, Feminist Geographies, and Environmental Geographies. We encourage candidates conducting research and teaching in all aspects of Political Ecology, including one (or more) of the following themes: human and more-than-human relations; migration policies and border security; Indigenous movements; environmental justice. We encourage applications from candidates using qualitative research methods, including ethnographic, interview-based, and archival approaches.
This successful candidate is expected to teach introductory and advanced courses in human geography; political ecology; environmental justice. The expected teaching assignment for this
position is two courses a semester (four courses each year). The successful candidate will be
expected to teach across the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, including introductory
courses as well as courses in their areas of specialty. We encourage candidates who will be able to contribute to our interdisciplinary offerings in Latin American, Caribbean and Latino Studies (LACLS) and Environmental and Sustainability Studies (ENS). A PhD All But Dissertation (ABD) in geography or related discipline is required.
