Position Summary
The University of Memphis (UofM) Department of Journalism & Strategic Media invites applications for a fulltime, nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor in Media Law/Visual Communication to begin in August 2024. The accomplishments of candidates for this position must reflect their commitment to working with an inclusive student population, and their ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural academic goals of the university.
The ideal candidate will have a robust research agenda that complements one or more of the research and teaching specialization(s) in the department. This agenda may include media law and ethics, social media, visual communication, and/or DE&I. The university offers opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration in STEM, social science, humanities, agriculture, and defense. Pursuit of grant-funded research is expected. Candidate will be expected to teach the undergraduate and graduate media law classes, as well as graduate theoretical and research courses, and practical creative-focused courses in our undergraduate program. Undergraduate courses will be assigned based on the candidate’s area of expertise and department needs.

Minimum Position Qualifications
A doctorate in mass communication (preferred) or a related field. ABD candidates with a record of publication demonstrating research capacity and expected Ph.D. completion date within one year of starting the position will be considered.
· Three years of professional experience in visual/multimedia communication.
· University-level teaching experience in journalism & mass communications.
Preferred qualifications:
· Five years of professional experience in visual/multimedia communication.
· Experience teaching courses in media law, media ethics, and visual communication.
